|12.02.11 by Ben Schneider|
For the second straight year Del Oro defeated Oakdale in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Championship Game. It was almost the exact same result. Del Oro won last year's Section title game 21-0 and tonight they won 21-7.
Nick O'Sullivan started things off for the Golden Eagles with a 25-yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter as Del Oro led 7-0 at halftime. Del Oro took the opening possession of the second half 80 yards, capped off by a 32-yard touchdown run from Brandon Monroe to make it 14-0. Monroe would strike again on a 26-yard touchdown run in the start of the 4th quarter to make it 21-0. The two touchdowns were Monroe's 21st and 22nd time he has reached the end-zone this year.
Manny Hernandez would add a four-yard touchdown run for Oakdale to make it 21-7 with just under eight minutes to play. On the ensuing kickoff Oakdale recovered an onside kick and made it to the Del Oro 25-yard line before a Spencer Thomas interception stalled the drive and Oakdale's chances at making a comeback.
The Golden Eagles got great performances from their two play making running backs Brandon Monroe and Nick O'Sullivan. Both players had 21 carries, Monoroe finished with 141 yards and two touchdowns to become the KBCSports.com Player of the Game while O'Sullivan finished with 127 yards and one touchdown. With the victory Del Oro wins their second straight Division III title and improves to 13-0 on the year. With the loss Oakdale falls to 13-1.
